Who we are
DSD was launched as a startup within General Electric in 2012, with the vision that GE could lead the evolution to more distributed energy generation. After seven years within GE as “GE Solar,” we sought a financial partner that could help achieve our goal of owning the solar assets we developed and providing customers with flexible funding. In 2019, a partnership was formed with BlackRock Real Assets — and GE Solar was relaunched a DSD Renewables.
With strong investments and backing, DSD is able to operate more efficiently, with lower costs and greater execution speed.

In-house Dedicated Canopy Team
DSD’s solar canopy configurations are best-in-class, delivering superior aesthetics and savings for parking lot, garage-top, and land coverage applications.
Unlike other solar companies that subcontract to outside firms, DSD has an in-house team of architects, designers, and engineers devoted exclusively to canopy design and development. We have tremendous experience, exhibited by our record of delivering high quality solutions to our customers at a very competitive price.
Each canopy that DSD builds is uniquely designed and strategically optimized to best meet the needs of each customer. DSD utilizes proprietary technology to build a solution that maximizes system density, production, and aesthetics. We also offer unique features, including water and ice management.

Long Term O&M and One Partner for the Life of the Agreement
With BlackRock backing DSD, our overall strategy is to own the assets we design, finance, develop, construct, and deploy.
DSD has the full ecosystem aligned and connected to be the ultimate asset owner. Our in-house design, development, construction, and safety and quality management allow us to have close internal communication and feedback loops to operate these assets efficiently and reliably. Also, as the long-term owner and operator, our interests are completely aligned with Rivian, so it’s mutually beneficial that we design your projects with long-term operation in mind. This way, you have a reliable partner that considers initial needs and maximizes the investment for the long haul, and no surprises occur in the process.
Our Approach for LaGuardia
Quick Overview of Your Projects
DSD’s designs include high-density arrays with high-wattage modules, with bifacial modules, to generate the largest production profiles within the areas designated by Rivian. We took extra care to avoid placement of any vertical canopy steel within parking space boundaries, resulting in no lost in parking spaces due to the structural components of the arrays.

A Growing Partnership
IKEA and DSD started their partnership in 2019 with 2 projects in Maryland. After the success of these projects, Ikea expanded the partnership with DSD to California. At the end of 2020, IKEA trusted DSD with projects across New York, Massachusetts, Arizona and New Jersey. We are proud to continuing assisting IKEA reaches its goals of 100% renewable energy by 2025.
